Mary Welsh joined the Chicago Daily News, adopted the nom de plume of “Margot, Jr.,” and wrote a daily column reporting on Chicago’s society weddings and dinner parties. Her friend, Sarah Boyden, remembered, “within a few months she knew more people in Chicago society than did many of its members.”
